Piano. Push. Play.
Summer in Portland is the reason we all put up with the winter. It’s epic and beautiful and full of amazing activities that celebrate the unique culture of this city. Piano. Push. Play. is an annual interactive art installation that features refurbished and reimagined pianos. They then place them around the city in public spaces for anyone to play! It’s the mission of the group to share music and passion in unexpected places, as well as to allow everyone access to a piano.
The annual kickoff concert is Friday June 30th in front of the Portland Art Museum. It is a family-friendly event, featuring several pianists as well as an opportunity for the public to sign up to play. The concert is free and will go from 7pm to 11pm. After the concert, the 10 pianos go to locations throughout the city to be played by passersby. After the season is over, all of the pianos are donated to local schools and music programs.
The featured artists creating pianos this year are: Portugal. The Man, Sera Architects, Lettie Jane Rennekamp, Tattly, Portland Gear, Heidi Marble, Doug Fir, Dowa-Ibi Group Architects, Open Eye Art, and Sign of the Beast Burlesque.
