Three years ago I was connected to a delightful couple who were interested in becoming first time homeowners. I was recommended to them through a mutual friend whom I hold in high esteem. The wife is part of the design focused creatives that thrive here in Portland and I have been following the growth of her clothing line with delight. For the past three years we have sent emails, looked up houses and kept a casual pulse on the Portland market and what they were looking for. This year everything aligned for them and they were ready to buy. Great!
Now that the decision to purchase was made, the next decision loomed – would location or house be the driving factor in their search? This is the proverbial fork in the road for many buyers, especially for a first home. It is a decision that is different for each. After touring several properties, we quickly realized that being located close-in to Portland, their favorite places, and their friends was more important than a house that had already been remodeled. Not specialized in the building trades, these two knew that it would be a thoughtfully outlined process of which projects to tackle over time.
I am happy to say we found them a house with a detached studio in their price point just 2 blocks off of Woodstock and across from a lovely large city park – an ideal location! The house is move-in ready but can use a good infusion of the charm and quality design I know their new owners will bring in due course.
