Humpty Dumpty Sat on Rocky Butte

Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall

Humpty Dumpty had a great fall;

All the king’s horses and all the king’s men

Couldn’t put Humpty together again.

This English nursery rhyme is an allegory for my most recent real estate transaction.

The journey began in January when my clients first sent me a property located on the extinct cinder cone known as Rocky Butte (the “wall”).

They thought the well-worn Mediterranean style home (Humpty Dumpty) was a diamond in the rough and decided they wanted to polish it.

The home inspection revealed a slew of expensive problems and my clients decided they couldn’t afford to put Humpty together again and terminated the transaction (fall #1).

A month later they called me and said they wanted the house after all.

Humpty had gone pending the day before that call (of course), but 5 days later, that deal also fell apart (fall #2) and my clients slid back into contract.

They waived the inspection contingency, so it didn’t matter if they put Humpty together again.

But the day before we closed, the financing fell apart and the deal was in jeopardy. Fall #3.

Somehow, all the kings horses and all the kings men, managed to put the loan together again.

And they closed yesterday.

The end.
