A day in Kenton

By Living Room Realty, June 25, 2018

There has been a lot of talk about Kenton, and for very good reason. Not only has it been a hot spot in Real Estate for the past few years, but it’s got a great main street that really makes it feel like it’s own little world. If you don’t live in the neighborhood, I highly recommend making a day of it and heading out for a fun-filled day in NoPo.

First up, grab a hot beverage and tasty breakfast at Posies Cafe. They have a dynamite breakfast sandwich and it’s a great place to slowly and leisurely ease into the day. Next, check out the shop next door, Mantle. It’s got a beautifully curated collection of home goods, jewelry, and other accoutrement. get yourself a little prize. Treat yo self. You deserve it.

Next up, pop into Speck’s Records and thumb through an impressive collection of vinyl and chat with the staff there about what upcoming shows they are hosting. It’s a really quirky space and they regularly host small shows for local bands, and the variety is really all over the place.

For lunch, head into Po’Shines Cafe de la Soul and get your barbecue fix. It’s got a great history and is one of the most community-minded restaurants in town. Note: They aren’t open on Sunday’s, since the whole staff is next door at the Tabernacle Church.

Take a little walk to stretch your legs after all that delicious food. Head over to Kenton Park to watch the dogs play and lay in the sun for a bit. Get that vitamin D.

If you need an afternoon pickup, head over to Presso Coffee Bar for a tasty latte or kombucha on tap. It’s a really beautiful space and is family-run by the sweetest folks. Also it’s very instagram-friendly, so snap some pics and share about your great day in Kenton!

Dinner time: Head up to Swift & Union. Everything is delicious.

Now for a little evening entertainment. Disjecta is a great gallery and performance space that regularly hosts shows by local and traveling artists as well as a variety of storytelling events, dance performances, and the occasional burlesque show. Check out their schedule to find something to pique your interest. If a show isn’t your speed, head over to The World Famous Kenton Club. It’s the best dive bar and they don’t really care whether or not you like them. They keep a good beer list and there is often live music by local bands, but the real treat is just kickin’ with some friends and snacks on the back patio, getting a little buzzed and reminiscing on how great Kenton is.
