Front of Earth Ship

  When I went to Jefferson, Colorado this summer to visit one of my best friends from college, I had no idea my real estate (and cardio-vascular!) horizons would be so expanded.  My friend, Kristin, lives in an Earth Ship that she and her family have built with their own hands – completely “off the grid.”  One side of the house is insulated by 1,000 recycled tires.   The other side has an expansive 180 degree view of the beautiful high desert. My buyer Kelly’s story is by now an all too familiar tale in Portland. Her family had been renting the same apartment for 12 years in close-in NE Portland. Every year the rent went up, but given the incredible demand for rental housing, this past year her rent went up past the point of reasonable.
