Waffles Taste Better Mathematically

By Britney Marr, March 29, 2019

They just do — it’s math. Can’t argue with math.

Pancakes are delicious, there’s no denying it. They’re large. They’re a little sweet. They’re fluffy and crispy on the edges. They’re golden brown and stacked up. And steaming and covered in all the things that we love. If they were big enough, we would crawl between those layers and snuggle in. Snuggle in for the good long haul and count ourselves lucky to do so.

But they’re not waffles. And here’s the secret of their superiority.

It’s the surface area. A waffle’s got so much more surface area than a pancake. Three to four times as much — in each little individual cup! That’s at minimum triple the brown, sweet, crispiness. At least thrice the nice. It’s like the human brain, except in this case, instead of increased surface area leading to greater and more numerous synaptic pathways — it’s an explosion of flavor and texture!

Plus all the little ways you can fill each of those flaky reservoirs adds to waffles’ excellence exponentially. A pancake you can only add toppings and love on a 2 dimensional plane — a waffle’s got 3 dimensional possibilities of wonder! If I had to graph this phenomenon, imagine an upward-trending line leading right to my big, waffle-crumb-covered smile.

Prove me wrong. Do the math yourself at Batter Griddle & Drinkery.
