8 of Our Favorite Holiday Dishes & Why

By Tosha Reinmiller, November 8, 2018

It’s that time of the year, where we get to cozy up in our kitchens to bake, simmer & serve those tried and true recipes we all love. We’ve compiled a list below of some our favorite (relatively simple) fall and winter recipes, to kick off your Holiday Season. Find out what makes these meals special to us and try them out for yourselves!

First up, we have a southwest inspired Jalapeño-Green Chile Spoonbread. This quick and easy stuffing alternative combines fresh corn, with zesty spice and creamy buttermilk, for a melt in your mouth experience. Peppers are a great way to add depth and spice to one of your regular meals. View Recipe.

Next: Glazed Shallots with Chile and Thyme. Shallots, like any member of the Onion Family are great at taking on rich flavors! We love this quick side dish because it puts a spicy spin on a fall classic. Another great reason to make it? You can prep them a day or two ahead and they’ll taste even better. View Recipe.

Switching up tradition, with Wild Rice Dressing. A lighter dish than it’s cousin the classic bread dressing, this tasty alternative can be prepared a day ahead and will add a dash of local color and flare to any fall table. View Recipe.

Let’s talk Protein. We know that Turkey tends to take center stage during the holidays but lets not forget, the Chicken. This “Perfect Cast-Iron Skillet Chicken Thighs” recipe will cut your cooking time down and allow space for all the other tasty meals you’d love to add to the table but don’t have time to. Plus, there’s nothing better than pan fried crispy chicken. Go ahead and think of something… we’ll wait. View Recipe.

Taste-of-Fall Salad. Light greens + fresh pears makes this salad beautiful, full of flavor and easy to prepare. We always like to have a variation of this for the holidays to balance those heartier dishes. Homemade salad dressing is super easy and makes all the difference, trust us. Swap the goat cheese for Parmesan if you’re looking to switch up textures! View Recipe.

Now for the Main Course, Dessert…

Kicking it off at number one, we have New York Cheesecake with Triple Berry Compote. This cake has always been a staple in our family and we love the simple approach Cupcakes to Cavier takes on this timeless treat. View Recipe.

Gooey Pumpkin Spice Latte Chocolate Pudding Cake. Why? Because: chocolate, pumpkin and coffee…This recipe combines everything we hold dear on earth, plus it’s really easy to prepare! View Recipe.

Coconut Pumpkin Pie. A dairy free and incredibly delicious alternative to the classic. We know it can get pretty personal when it comes to pumpkin pie. Everyone has their own personal preferences when it comes to crust, texture and toppings but when it comes down to it, we’re all gunning for that creamy, pumpkin-y goodness. Unless you don’t like pie and in that case, let there be cake! Here’s our new favorite. View Recipe.

We hope these recipes inspire you for the coming season and years ahead. For more tasty recipes, visit and subscribe to our Coast Living Newsletter!
