A Day in Creston-Kenilworth

By Matt Guy, February 28, 2019

In 1848, most of the Creston-Kenilworth neighborhood was land claimed by Clinton Kelly, a Methodist minister from Kentucky. In 1889, the neighborhood was named after Sir Walter Scott’s 1821 novel, Kenilworth – a romantic story set in Elizabethan England. Many of the streets in the neighborhood are named from this novel, and other novels by Scott. Now, this neighborhood is primarily residential, with some fantastic gems! Here’s some ways to spend a perfect day in the Creston-Kenilworth neighborhood.

Start your day with a delicious and socially conscious cup of coffee at Magnolia Coffee Co. Magnolia is a specialty coffee company offering delicious craft roasted coffee. They authentically source Direct Trade coffees from small farms at origin to ensure sustainable pricing for the coffee producers and to help improve the lives of the coffee harvesters and their families.

Head over to Citrine Bloom for a totally instagrammable shopping experience. This plant and home goods store features house plants, crystals, locally made CBD bath and body products, and art from female identifying artists from across the west coast!

Stop by for a show at the Community Music Center. CMC is a program of Portland Parks and Rec, and it has been a popular place for music lessons and concerts in Portland since 1955. They host affordable music classes and lessons, free and low cost concerts and workshops, and low cost instrument rentals. They have over 150 live performances every year!

Have dinner at Yoko’s Sushi Bar. This cozy restaurant is a local neighborhood favorite, serving up high-quality fresh and creative sushi, sashimi, tempura, and more with an extensive sake menu.

Finish the night with drinks and pinball at C Bar! They have great handcrafted cocktails using locally distilled spirits and 20 rotating taps. They also have 15 games from Rose City Pinball ranging from classic EM’s to modern Sterns. If you need a midnight snack, they have one of the best burgers in Portland.

If you are looking for a close-in SE neighborhood with plenty of neighborhood spots you’ll want to regular, Creston-Kenilworth is the place to be!
