Keep Salem Lame!

By Living Room Realty, April 19, 2019

You’ve heard the phrase “Keep Portland Weird,” and boy this city is weird! We’ve got Stripperoke (that’s right, stripper karaoke), the Unipiper, the World Naked Bike Ride, and a vacuum museum to name just a few of Portland’s best weird-but-fun things in town. Well, I’m not sure if the vacuum museum is fun, but it is definitely weird.

Since 2013, Salem has been filled with “Keep Salem Lame” bumper stickers – is Salem just Portland’s lame southern neighbor? Hardly!

As the state capitol, Salem is steeped in history. From the Capitol Building which was built in 1936, to Willamette University the first University on the West Coast. Salem has beautiful public gardens. Bush Pasture Park is 100 acres of fruiting and flowering trees, native plants, and a formal rose garden. In June, Adelman Peony gardens is a petal-filled destination with displays of hundreds of peony varieties – from heirloom to the newest selection – as far as the eye can see. In Winter, enjoy the Salem Brewfest, a four-day festival in a heated tent across from the state capitol building. Sample everything from IPAs to hard kombucha, all from local Oregon breweries.

So, if keeping Salem lame means enjoying history, the great outdoors, and tasty beers I’d be happy to “Keep Salem Lame!”
