A letter to my mom – a new Portland homeowner

By Living Room Realty, September 30, 2019

Mom,

I don’t know that this will even come close to how I feel about you buying a home here, but here it goes. My overwhelming feeling about you being here is gratitude. I know I won’t comprehend the magnitude of you being here for a very long time, but you being here is already giving me a sense of peace I didn’t know I was seeking. I’m already feeling less lonely. More grounded. Richer. Having you here gives me a sense of comfort I think I’ve been seeking since moving out of the house I grew up in, 20 years ago. It’s been almost 20 years of living in different cities and I can’t believe how much I’ve missed you.

I can’t believe my son River gets to have the same special relationship with you that I had with your mom, my Nana. What a gift. When I start to think about the possibilities, I get overwhelmed with emotion and joy.

Thank you for coming here. Thank you for choosing to live in the city where I’ve made a life. You are the most selfless mother.

I love you with my whole heart, mom. Thank you for being such a steady and consistent force in my life. Always and forever.
