9 Months Later… They Own a Home

By Living Room Realty, December 9, 2019

The buyers found their dream home, made the offer, the sellers accepted, made it through inspections and appraisals and, within a couple weeks, they were moving right along towards closing when an unforeseen, 1970s City of Portland clerical error turned their smooth 4 week transaction into a long, drawn out 9 month ordeal.

The county records mistakenly had put the property line shared by a neighboring property directly through the home these buyers were purchasing. In order to provide clear title, the sellers needed to have the property line adjusted with the City. This may have only taken 2-3 months but because of sour relations with the neighbor in question, communication was delegated to respective lawyers for either party and it became a painfully slow game of back and forth between lawyers (of which you can read the full info here) and the City of Portland. Fortunately for these buyers, their sellers were reasonable and helpful and both parties were patient – it all came to a happy ending when the issue was resolved and they were able to finally, 9 months later, call themselves new homeowners, but that wasn’t the only big life change in those 9 months, they were also able to call themselves new parents! Wowzers.
