Patience

By Living Room Realty, May 26, 2020

I first met the couple in the South Waterfront; they bounced from high rise to high rise- trying to find the right fit for their growing family. A few years later, they decided on a beautiful 1910 home in John’s Landing to grow their roots and settle in. Endless hours of painting, scrubbing, laughter and porch sitting; the house became a warm and beautiful home. Soon it was given its much earned name, Patience.. for that’s what it took to renovate the kitchen, replace the roof’s many layers, reconfigure the upstairs bathroom and refinish the clawfoot tub to its original luster- all while thoughtfully highlighting original features true to her time. I’ve been given the honor of watching their son grow within Patience, shy but beaming he practiced long division on his chalkboard wall, golfed on his practice green that laced his bedroom floor, and humbly exercised his wild intelligence and kindness. Often, I would drive by the home and they would flag me down to join for a glass of wine and great conversation- the home always as welcoming as them. A place for love, community and incredible memories- Patience is now handed over to a new family to care for her. May her walls be as kind to the next as they have been for the last 100 years.
