Buying Sight Unseen During COVID

By Living Room Realty, August 12, 2020

I had the pleasure of meeting Linda a couple years ago.  At the time I was helping her sister purchase a home, but Linda knew that a move to Portland was most likely in her future.

Wanting to be near her family and her adorable grand daughter, Linda decided to make the move to Portland last year. She listed her home in Michigan and quickly had a buyer under contract. We immediately began her Portland home search in earnest, and she flew out right away to begin looking for a replacement property.  We had a chance to view a few homes together this spring, but our search came to an abrupt halt with the emergence of COVID.

Linda traveled home to Michigan as soon as the shelter in place orders were put into effect. She continued wrapping up the sale of her home, and would occasionally send me listings to investigate. For the promising ones, we would do a face time tour, and take virtual neighborhood strolls together to get a feel for the community. She knew she found the perfect place to call home once we saw this well cared for Cedar Hills home that was just blocks to a park with a lake and abundant wildlife perfect for afternoon strolls with her grand daughter! We beat out eight competing offers, completed inspections and negotiated repairs from afar.

Buying sight unseen can have it’s challenges, but it’s not impossible. Good communication is key! Making certain that there’s a clear understanding regarding the search criteria, scheduling times for virtual walk throughs and lots of time spent in conversations with our clients is so important to successful outcomes!! Congratulations Linda! I’m so honored to have been a part of your home buying process! Thanks for trusting in me and for being so great to work with!
