I almost didn’t answer the call

By Living Room Realty, September 8, 2020

It was actually a text.

“Hey. Can you help me get into this house? I LOVE it!!!!!”

My phone number had recently been used in a phishing expedition by a scammer. They texted my co-workers, posing as me, asking for some financial help. My name starts with two “As”, so I get this and pocket dials more than my ladder-initialed friends.

All that is to say that I was initially unmoved by the text. But I replied with an optimistic, “Sorry – who is this?”

It was a family friend with an L.A. number, who I’d neglected to put in my contacts. She was standing outside of a house she’d been obsessed with and was finally at a breaking point.

And we were off to the races!

It was so fun to work with friends. They saw a side of my personality  that does not come out in normal interactions. Which is probably for the best.

There is nothing like drinking a beer at a safe distance with a friend on their new porch that you helped buy.
