Fine Dining but Make it Healthy

By David Columbus, September 11, 2020

Eating Out. My biggest guilty pleasure. I’m not saying it’s the most unhealthiest thing, but it isn’t the healthiest thing either.

I’m not sure if it’s just me, but I always feel bad for my wallet and my health after a long weekend of eating out everyday. No matter how much I tell myself I will meal prep and find a healthy balance, I always end up going out for takeout at a chain restaurant. Nothing wrong with that – but not the healthy balance I want to achieve!

However, lately I’ve discovered the concept of eating local and at small mom and pop shops around town. Nothing beats having a home cooked meal and that’s exactly what these local restaurants serve! I found that they often pay more attention to where they are sourcing their ingredients from and how the meal is prepared. Nothing is ever doused in preservatives and it supports our local economy!

My current favorite is Milk Glass Mrkt. The perks is that everything served is made fresh in-house everyday. In addition, all of their ingredients are from local farms around our community! It has always been my favorite go to spot for a quick bite or snack whenever I’m in North Portland. Even with COVID19, this place has still been my favorite place where they have fresh baked goods, farm produce, fresh eggs, dairy, and wine for pick up everyday! You can really taste the quality and attention  to ingredients and preparation which is why this will be my forever go to spot in the Killingsworth area. Highly recommend you checking it out whenever you’re in this part of town!

He/Him

Ok, here’s my snapshot. I moved to Portland in October of 1998, moved for love. I’ve been a licensed real estate broker in Oregon since 2000 and would describe myself as a general practitioner helping people navigate residential, investment, and owner-user commercial markets as well as doing some residential tenant representation. My work experience has ranged from swinging a hammer to brokering Eurodollar Futures. Me and my husband and two cats live in the Overlook/Arbor Lodge neighborhood, together we have built a 20-door rental portfolio and even run a small Airbnb business. I am originally from Traverse City, MI (NW lower MI), and graduated from Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, MI. My quarter-life crisis was spent crewing/hitchhiking on sailing yachts around the Caribbean, British Isles, and Mediterranean Sea for three years. My mid-life crisis was spent with my partner sailing from Portland, OR down to Mexico and hanging out for a year. I'm good with crises. I work with buyers, sellers, and tenants who are all looking to thread the housing needle.
