The Rise of the Home Office

By Mel Dorman, December 30, 2020

Prior to Covid-19, the home office for most people was an afterthought. With technology and remote work gaining traction, homeowners found they could work from anywhere—the kitchen table or the local coffee shop.

Our current circumstances with Covid-19 have seen a rebirth of the home office. Move aside kitchens! Home offices are beginning to be spotlighted in homes and gaining prominence in real estate listings.

Homeowners are dedicating space for a home office that they can work remotely from or their children can do remote school from like never before.

Realtors with the help of stagers are taking extra care to create the “statement home office” that gets noticed on tours and in photos. Homeowners are not only looking for a fully functional home office that includes spaces for multiple workstations and that has plenty of tucked away hidden storage, but they are also “looking to have their home offices evoke a sense of calm,” Eilyn Jimenez, founder and creative director of Sire Design in Miami, told Mansion Global. “Design has changed substantially, as we are placing greater focus on ambiance and mood.”

When preparing to list your house it can be a great idea to highlight your home office.
Try your best to create a dedicated space for a home office. This will give your buyer’s the sense that they will be able to unplug when the work or school day is done and provide greater separation from work life versus personal life. Currently these spaces can make all the difference in your upcoming listing!
