One of my favorite gifts to give my buyer clients, especially if they are new to the Pacific Northwest is a copy of The Maritime Northwest Garden Guide and a gift certificate to one of Portland’s amazing local garden centers. As a longtime gardener myself, I remember waiting until I owned my own house before feeling like I could really invest in fruit trees, bulbs, and perennials overall.
I also love checking back in with my buyer clients over time to see what discoveries they’ve made about their own microclimates, sun paths, and slug infestations.
My lovely clients, Lindsay and Greg just closed on the most adorable and stylish 115-year-old single-level cottage in the Portsmouth neighborhood of Portland. Greg and Lindsay were very excited about the fantastic kitchen garden layout the previous owners established in the backyard. I have encouraged them to check out FANG! on Lombard in Kenton. Fang has just opened their outdoor garden center and so in addition to spending all of my money indoors on beautiful pottery and houseplants, my outdoor spaces will be feeling lush in no time this spring.
What will Greg and Lindsay learn and make of their new garden? I cannot wait to find out! Here’s a picture of their lovely backyard.
