Do you know that the kitchen is the dirtiest part of your whole home? There are probably a lot of other interesting things you don’t know about the dirtiest places in your home. Here are five other common household spots that typically are overlooked. You might want to consider cleaning these pots in the near future.
1) Your washing machine
That’s right, the thing that washes your clothes is actually pretty gross, especially if you tend to wash your clothes on colder temperatures. In fact, many U.S. households don’t launder clothes at temperatures high enough to kill bacteria. Moisture from the washing machine gets trapped in the door’s seal and the detergent drawer, which can harbor microbes.
2) Your toothbrush holder
Toothbrush holders collect bacteria from your mouth and are seldom washed or cleaned. This builds up over time and can become visibly discolored or gooey. Don’t forget to clean it weekly!
3) Your carpets and rugs
What’s lurking in your carpeting and throw rugs? A lot of nasty things. Allergy-inducing pet dander, pollen—and it turns out—a fair amount of mold, especially if you’re in a humid climate. Dust mites are another problem that arise when carpets aren’t cleaned for a while.
4) Your dishwasher
Another machine that harbors too many germs to count, your dishwasher may not be as sparkling clean as you thought.
Dishwashers can grow mold and bacteria, since they’re a dark, wet environment. Make sure to leave the door open a little bit to dry out your dishwasher when you’re not using it for a while. Once a month run it through a deep-cleaning cycle with a dishwasher cleaning tablet.
6) Your computer keyboard
This one speaks for itself. Anything that we repeatedly touch all of the time becomes a parking lot for germs. Try cleaning it once a day, just make sure you don’t damage your keyboard by getting it too wet.
