Maywood Park: A City within a City

By Living Room Realty, June 8, 2021

With a population of only 995 residents, the City of Maywood Park is nestled in a corner of the world that was once on the outer edge of Portland. After the establishment of Sandy Blvd heading east, Maywood Park became a vision of the developer Commonwealth, Inc, as a planned community, much in the same vein as Laurelhurst as Eastmoreland. Incorporated in 1967, these residents came together to attempt to stop the construction of I-205 that ended up obliterating the west end of the neighborhood of low-lying 1940-era homes. Fortunately, however, the neighborhood rallied for an extra sound barrier and a lower elevation of I-205 as it winds its way along Maywood Park’s current western border.

Maywood Park is complete with their own elected officials, a mayor, and of significance to me as a buyer’s agent, no City sewer service – only cesspools! Large lots, sweet roundabouts, and basketball hoops line the streets under a canopy of old-growth trees that clearly harbor tons of bird life that feels surprising in an area so close to the highway and 4-lane Sandy Blvd.

Congrats to my sweet buyers to have landed a new home in very cool corner of the world. I’m sure they’ll enjoy this spot as their kids grow up here with terrific access to the airport and the Columbia Gorge!
