Summer Home-Buyer Checklist

Looking to lock down your next home this Summer?

What things are you looking for in your search?

What things are easily forgotten?

Here’s 5 things to remember when looking at homes this Summer:

1: Do the windows open?

When looking at a house on the internet, you may be seeing windows that look like they can open, only to find that they’re painted shut, or permanently shut. Knowing this before writing up an offer can help to alleviate surprises at the time of inspections.

2. How much gardening is too much gardening?

If you’re caught by the alluring landscaping of our fine green-thumbed sellers, you’d benefit from looking into how to tend to the plants that you find most attractive. Might as well familiarize yourself with rose bushes, tulip gardens, rhododendron clusters, or urban farming which will require learning new routines. Knowing your gardening limit can help avoid regret, or nudge you toward learning more about low maintenance landscape.

3. Where does the outdoor furniture go in the winter?

When daydreaming about the fancy dinner parties in your backyard, or contemplating how many solar lights create the right ambiance, remember that winter months can harm delicate woods or metals. Keeping wood or metal furniture out of the cold rain can extend the lifespan of your carefully pondered natural space, and having a plan for where these items go can help you select the right combination of products to bring that socializing space together.

4. How bright are the windows?

With Sun bouncing off of the beautiful canopy of trees, creating a pleasantly cool Summer space, it might be easy to forget that Fall, Winter, and Spring weather comes with many rainy/cloudy days, and if you love natural lighting in a home, keep in mind how much light might come into the home.

5. How is the home heated?

While we’re talking about Winter, remember to gauge the heat source for homes you look at for ease of use, efficiency, and personal preferences. Not every home comes with a fireplace, but in the event the next snow-pocalypse knocks out the power, having a back-up plan for heating your home can keep your space toasty. Ensure you have proper ventilation and sufficient fuel to your comforts.
