Why slab foundations are not popular in Oregon

By Living Room Realty, August 21, 2018

Anything can be fixed, it just takes time and money. The sweet 1950s Beaverton cottage I just sold is adorable with superb location, great layout, spacious rooms and a big yard but wow, do I appreciate new construction techniques. The buyer’s inspection revealed a very slow bathtub drain, which is normally an easy fix that REALTORS® deal with often while coordinating repairs. It’s not easy when the drain is embedded in concrete, necessitating removal of the tub and jack-hammering the concrete to remove the trap. Fortunately the trap was the only problem and the rest of the cast iron drain pipe was in great shape but each step of the process took time and of course money. It’s finally done and the buyer can move in. In my 25 years of transactions I’d never had a repair like this one. Fortunately very few homes here in Oregon are built on slabs.
