Portland’s Best Home Stores

By Living Room Realty, September 11, 2018

I’m that person that goes to Ikea to aimlessly walk and destress.  Yes, you read that right.  I enjoy a meditative stroll through Ikea.  I won’t blame you for judging me, although their 2019 line does have some goodies.

That being said, the Interior Designer in me is constantly searching for home shops and lighting shops that I can suggest to my real estate clients.  Those that are non-big box and unique to Portland.  The kind that inspire as you browse.

Here are a few of my favorites; Portland’s Best Home Stores (in my humble opinion, of course):

Schoolhouse Electric

Inspired by, “an innate affection for pieces with a past and the belief that something worth owning now is worth owning forever.  Schoolhouse Electric beautifully mixes eras and styles, with an ever-present focus on quality…”

Favorites from Schoolhouse include the “Work Hard & Be Nice to People” print, as well as the “Spitfire Ceiling Fan.”

Monticello Antique Marketplace

The 20,000 square foot building hosts more than 100 dealer spaces.  New inventory arrives every day and is constantly changing.  The perfect place to shop or browse on a rainy day!

I’ve scored side tables and art prints here, and love exploring Montavilla’s eclectic neighborhood after I’m done.

City Home

Fans of Justina Blakeney and Joanna Gaines will go crazy for City Home.  With two locations, City Home is, “an inspired collection of vintage, reclaimed, mid-century modern and industrial home furnishings…”

Furniture is reasonably priced and I dream of one day having a kitchen or basement large enough to display one of their retro neon signs.

Urbanite

Situated close-in, this city block is filled with over 40 curators of new and used art, furniture and lighting.  The staff is also super helpful.

Favorite purchases have included throw pillows and vintage storage options.

What non-big box stores have I missed?  Always looking for new sources!
