Blog Stories a rectangle of relief

a rectangle of relief

By Living Room Realty, September 17, 2020

Growing up, my next door neighbors had a pool. Sometime in the early 1980s they took out the diving board and renovated it to resemble the set of the Blue Lagoon. Did I mention it was the 80s?

I’ve always thought of backyard pools as extravagant. So much has to happen for them to work right and stay lovely.

But then you find yourself at a house with a pool on a hot summer day and it all makes sense.

And then all the municipal pools close because of a pandemic and the local temperature is nothing to sneeze at and having a pool out back starts seeming very reasonable. Even in Portland. Especially in Portland.

My most recent listing was my first to have an in-ground pool. Yes, it had its challenges, but there’s something about a clear blue rectangle of water that is so attractive, I can’t deny its value.

It was a steep learning curve as I immersed myself in pumps and filters, skimming nets and ph testing.

I don’t usually get emotionally attached to the houses I sell, but I’m going to miss that blue rectangle. Especially next summer.
