They’re also appealing to people who want less space, less maintenance, and a more sustainable lifestyle. For property owners, converting a small ADU into condos can be a smart way to unlock value without building something massive.
Portland’s push for gentle density has helped make this possible, encouraging more creative use of existing lots while keeping neighborhood character intact. It’s not a solution to everything, but it’s a practical, Portland-style response to the housing crunch.
