Block Party Life

By Living Room Realty, September 10, 2018

This year my own street had it’s inaugural block party. This is something that I had never experienced before. For a little background, I find myself somewhere on the spectrum between introvert and extrovert. I love to get together in small to medium groups, strangers or friends, either way is fine. But I tend to top out around 15 folks. Anything after that starts to feel like a chore. So I admit I was dreading (just a little bit) making small talk with my neighbors for four hours.

But I could not have been more wrong! Our block party was a blast, with not one but TWO fire truck visits, scooter races, bean bag toss and some truly amazing food (including Paella, thanks neighbor!). We got to meet so many wonderful folks that we hadn’t crossed paths with before, and many of our newest neighbors. And our block will also now be holding regular emergency preparedness meetings. Plus we were able to send our kids away for an hour to have a water balloon fight AT SOMEONE ELSE’S house the next day.  Amazing.

If you’re looking to get to know your neighbors a little bit better, or just want an excuse to check out a sparkly Fire Engine, you can get your block part permit from the city HERE.
