I met Bob nearly nine years ago when my daughter started dating my now son-in-law. Bob had just graduated from PSU and was the roommate of my daughter’s new boyfriend. You were a soft spoken and gentle spirited young man. I noticed right away that you were “that guy” who would always show up to help when others needed you. You loved our Halloween parties and always had fun helping us set up and run the haunted house. You joined us for countless celebrations and impromptu gatherings over the years. We’ve had the pleasure of knowing you for nine years.
This last winter Bob finally decided it was time for him to take the leap and to get into homeownership. We had talked about it before, but this time was different. You told me you were nervous. I told you it was going to be alright and that I’d be with you every step of the way. We knew we had some challenges to overcome, and sure enough, we struck out several times before you finally landed a home that couldn’t have been more perfect for you! I wasn’t able to make your key day celebration because I was sick from the vaccine side effects. I wish I could have been there to give you a hug and to celebrate the beginning of your new chapter.
You passed away only two days after closing on your first home purchase. You were so excited and I couldn’t have been more excited for you. One of your last text messages to me was “I still can’t believe this all came together. I walked into the neighborhood and it’s a dream come true.” I’m so happy you were able to experience this joy before you left this world Bob, and that I got to be witness to it. You are leaving a big whole behind in our lives and in our hearts. You will forever be missed dear Bob, forever!
