Canoe – a carefully curated source for gifts in Portland, Or

By Living Room Realty, August 3, 2020

Be careful when you go into Canoe. It is a vortex, and once it pulls you in, you may find it difficult to leave. One of my favorite retail stores in the Northwest, Canoe strikes the perfect balance of modern classics alongside newer designs destined to become iconic over time. I’ve been sourcing gifts, accessories and home goods at this carefully curated shop since its opening nearly 15 years ago.

Currently in their second location – tucked just behind the art museum in downtown Portland – they are surviving through the pandemic offering curbside pick-up and $5 shipping to anywhere in Portland (wow!). From Japanese ceramics and toiletries to French glassware and locally made bags, I can always find the perfect gift for any friend or client (and all too frequently, myself). My most recent closing was for a design-minded employee of the Portland Art Museum and I intuitively knew that Canoe would have a hand in sourcing a house warming gift from me. I am so grateful that after 15 years, the owners Craig and Sean continue to cull the best of everyday design from around the world.
