I first met Joe and Brett some five years ago on the sidewalk in front of a house I had just shown in Hawthorne. They asked about seeing the house and I told them I was there to show it to my buyer. Janice, that buyer, quickly told me the house wasn’t for her and nudged me to show it to them, while giving me a thumbs up plug to the guys who were total strangers at this point. She went off to work and I showed Brett and Joe the home. It wasn’t for them either and the timing wasn’t right just yet- they were here on an early reconnaissance mission about moving from DC to Portland. They took my card and said once they had made the commitment, they’d be in touch. I didn’t think much more about it except that I liked them and hoped I’d have the opportunity to help. True to their word, they did reach out later in the year and when they came to town, they were ready to commit and buy.
They found a home in Brooklyn neighborhood in SE Portland, a gem on SE Rhine St built in 1890! There were multiple offers but they competed well and their offer was accepted. Soon Joe, Brett and Petey, their sweet pup, moved cross country and began their lives in Portland. They loved it here, taking advantage of Oregon’s outdoor splendor and Portland’s bounty of neighborhoods. Flash forward almost four years, an employment opportunity they couldn’t refuse found them making the hard decision to return to DC.
We just sold their home after multiple offers and a smooth escrow with great co-cop agents at Home Team Realty. I am sad to say goodbye to these guys of whom I have grown quite fond. What was meant to be a long term move to PDX has to be put on hold but there’s already talk of returning once they log enough time in their work lives. With that in mind, I’ll say Ciao for now, dear Joe & Brett. Thank you for being so lovely and for trusting me- I just know we’ll get you back to Portland if that goal remains in your heart. In the short term, I’ll see you in DC!
