Did you know that you can go on a thrilling rafting adventure a mere 2 hours from Portland?! The little town of Maupin nearly doubles in size during the summer months all thanks to nature’s legit roller coaster: The Deschutes River. For a mere $65 per person, we did the perfect 3-hour float down with All-Star Rafting (Request Morgan as your guide- she’s the best!).
Sure, I was the only one who said NO to flipping the boat. Sorry, I like to be safe and not drown sheesh. But we def shredded multiple class 4 rapids like the best of them.
We made it there and back in a day with plenty of time to stop at a few alpine lakes to peep the prime camp spots for later this summer. (Frog Lake- a total underdog hidden gem of a lake!)
Try to go on a weekday afternoon to avoid the crowds and definitely plan to get drinks at the (not gay) Rainbow Tavern after.
