First Time Home Buyers

By Living Room Realty, December 10, 2020

One of the best parts of my job is helping first time home buyers purchase their very first home. When that happens, my whole mindset slows down and my mantra becomes “patience”. I automatically remember my own experience many years back and feel the enormous significance of what this milestone means for my customers.

My priority, after listening to what is the desired outcome, is educating my buyers. This involves sharing as much information as possible about the process, how the real estate market works, the pros and cons of each neighborhood, the types of properties, how to look at a house with a critical eye, the financial and practical implications of becoming a homeowner, and so much more. The whole purpose is to empower my customers to make informed decisions about their purchase.

I just helped Jason and Annie purchase their very first home. We took it very easy from the start, looking at options at a pace that felt comfortable to them, giving them time to digest potential options and let information sink in. At some point we were finessing the home selection until the right property showed up.

Their offer was accepted at the first try and then focused on the mechanics of the transaction. It gave them great peace of mind knowing that an offer acceptance was simply a first step to a successful closing, but in no way a point of no return. I reminded them that there where many opportunities to withdraw from the purchase if something did not feel right.

Fortunately, everything ran perfectly, the home inspection was super clean, the lender had done a good job prepping them about the financing aspects and the appraisal came right at value. All in all, it was smooth sailing thanks to the piecemeal sharing of knowledge with very thoughtful first time buyers.
