In early 2019, a close friend introduced me to Frieda. We met at a coffee shop and I asked her the typical questions about the type of home she wanted to purchase. What areas of town appeal to you? How many bedrooms/baths? Etc. She wasn’t quite ready to buy, she needed to save more for her downpayment. We had a great meeting and I left there looking forward to helping her purchase a first home for her family.
Frieda was born in Cameroon and came to the US at age 27. She landed in Washington DC but quickly realized that she needed more sun and warmth in her life so she moved to Arizona. She settled in Oregon in 2010 where she went to graduate school at U of O to finish her Masters in International Studies and Public Health.
We started looking at properties about a year later over a large area of Portland. From Sherwood to Damascus and all areas in between. Each time I met with Frieda, I gained deeper insight and appreciation of who she was; her history, her family, her cultural experiences from childhood to now. What it was like living in Portland, what it was like being a single mother. I enjoyed her story and always had more questions and wanted to know more about her.
She always had a smile on her face and was genuinely happy, she was easy going but strong willed. She knew what she wanted and wasn’t willing to settle for less nor was she going to spend more than her budget allowed. We spent countless hours looking at homes and chatting over the phone until we found the perfect home!
Thank you Frieda! Not just for putting your trust in me to guide you through the home buying process but for allowing me to learn about you, your life, your experiences, your struggles, your triumphs and everything in between. I have gained a new friend and I am thankful for what you taught me along the way!
