Get Your Garden On!

By Living Room Realty, March 31, 2022

Community gardens deliver many benefits to a neighborhood! They provide fresh, local fruits, vegetables, herbs, and medicine. They serve as patches of pollinator-friendly habitat for the bugs, beetles, and birds that help our world grow. And they bring together our communities to work the land, play in the sun and rain, and learn from each other. If you’re looking to buy a home, consider checking to see if there’s a community garden nearby. If you already live near one – lucky you! Here are a few of my favorite gardens around Portland. Each of them has their own character and style with something unique to offer urbanites and farm folk alike. Even if you never plant something yourself, just passing by these sanctuaries brings a little joy. Take a biking tour around town and explore them all!

Colonel Summers Community Garden
Next to a field with picnic tables, basketball and tennis courts, and a summer splash pad for the kids, this park is a hub for people of all ages and mobility to share healthy space.

Sewallcrest Community Garden
Complete with a large kids’ play area, baseball diamond and a HUGE dog-friendly field, Sewallcrest Park is an anchor in the heart of SE Portland.

Earl Boyles Community Garden
Recently expanded with more than a dozen new garden plots, Earl Boyles is answering the call for more public space in one of the most popular parts of East Portland!
