Heartbreak Leads to Happy Ending

By Living Room Realty, December 10, 2018

I’ve almost managed to forget how hard it was to get buyers under contract up until one year ago where nearly every home received many multiple offers driving the price up to what felt like astronomical heights. I am quickly reminded when looking back to three years ago as I set out with Cam and Kelly to find their next home. They had been renting a sweet little 2 bedroom, 1 bath house in Hayhurst, but with baby number 2 on the way, they knew the walls would soon be closing in. Although they had a healthy budget and full pre-approval the selection of homes that came up that interested them also interested everyone else either with cash whether it be their own or from the bank of mom and dad.

We looked for nearly 7 months and saw every home that looked like it had potential. After being beat out a couple of times they began to consider homes that I knew they would regret including a house that was built in what felt like a hole in the earth and one where a dude passed away and got eaten by his cats. Side note: if you see a neighbor out and about while viewing homes, ask “how do you like the neighborhood” and you will get more information than you ever wanted. I was NOT about to let them buy the “cat food” house, especially since Kelly was about to pop with baby number 2.  Murmurs of their landlord selling had been floating around and they decided that maybe the next logical landing pad was the one they were already on…

The price was right, and not having to compete was ideal for them given the recent ride on the market’s crazy train. They bought with no formal representation, but I did act as their sideline cheerleader supporting them fully in putting the “forever home” idea on hold and enduring a bit more of their current situation.  I truly wanted what was best for them, and this was it!

Cut to a little over two years and two growing and active kiddos later, Kelly and Cam’s landing pad started to feel more like an asylum. With the market being much more tame, we picked up where we left off, and began touring again. After about 6 or so houses, a dialed mid century home came on the market not too far from there existing home with an amazing layout suitable for their family, sweeping territorial views, an outdoor fireplace, and a sport court! On our tour, I hung outside with the kids,  scooted around, and (badly) shot some hoops while mom and dad had a thorough look around. Seeing the glee on the kid’s faces and space that this home provided, I was so hopeful that they would be able to envision their daily life as I saw it.  Getting to know them over the years has been such a gift, and I  knew this was the perfect home for them the moment I walked through the door. They knew it too, and despite multiple offers which do still happen on a well-priced and presented home, they got the house! Congratulations so my good friends and long-term clients – I could not be more proud of our journey together!

I would love to be part of your next move…
