Hiking in Happy Valley: Mt Scott Nature Trail

Mt Scott, an extinct volcano in the Boring Volcanic Field, rises over 1,000 feet.

The volcano, and others nearby, were formed during an eruptive phase beginning about 1.6 million years ago. While part of the northern slope of Mt Scott is in Multnomah county, most of Mt Scott lies within Clackamas County particularly into the rapidly expanding community of Happy Valley.

The Mt Scott Nature Trail is a 1.1 mile wooded loop along the southeast slope of Mt Scott. This hike takes you under canopy formed of Douglas-fir, western hemlock, some grand firm and red alder. After a junction, hike through thickets of sour cherry, hazel, Indian plum, Douglas-fir, and elderberry. Rusting relics, like an old pickup truck, serve as trailside sculptures.
