We recently sold this home on Rocky Butte to a couple that had spent over 30 years in the home, perfecting the magnificent gardens on this oversized lot. Inspired by their international travels, they decided to recreate some of the features that resonated with them during a trip to Japan. They built an outdoor structure similar to one they had seen in Kyoto, incorporated an authentic Zen rock garden complete with petrified tree.

Consulting with specialists and master gardeners at the Portland Japanese Gardens, the homeowners carefully selected unique plantings to add to the zen vibe of the property. A variety of Maple Trees include: Red Dragon, Coral Bark, Emperor, Lion’s Head, Orange Dream and Blood Good. Speciality evergreens include Mugo pines, Chief Joseph pines, Nest spruces and 2 Bonzai Pines estimated to be over 80 years old.

They successfully recreated the aesthetic of a place that inspired them and can now inspire the new owners for years to come.
