I’m so relieved to have this one completed for my sellers, Susan and Barrett! Last spring they moved into a great independent living situation in Milwaukie, a perfect set up for where they are in their lives. Having so many services available to them allows them to enjoy many other pursuits like spending lots more time with their grandkids.
Their plan was to clear the condo out in fairly short order but between commuting back and forth to do so and the distractions of their new life, it took many months to complete. I can say with complete conviction that NO SELLER has ever accurately estimated what it will take to “get a move on.” There’s always more than one thinks. Often it’s just more stuff than one recalls, other times, it’s the pouring over each item and savoring of memories that takes on it’s own life. Every time I witness this fact, I return to my own home and vow to embrace my inner Marie Kondo (to little effect, I might add).
My sellers came to me as a warm referral from past clients. Susan, one of my sellers is the mom to Kim and Liz, both wonderful humans and past clients whom I’ve had the honor of assisting with multiple buy and sell situations over the last 20 years. Liz came to me from her sister, Kim, Kim came to me from her good friend Spike, Spike came to me from a past colleague at Portland Center Stage, my previous theatre career, etc. As I think on just the three of them, I see three limbs of the referral tree they have blessed me with and I am so grateful.
The very best part of my job is getting to know people a bit and hearing about their lives. I learned that my sellers found one another later in life after both losing spouses…and that they were married in early October in the same year my husband and I were, just a few days before us. Happy Anniversary Susan and Barrett!
This job would be a hollow experience without the people who bring their unique stories to share.
