Local For A Day: How to Spend A Full Day In St. Johns

By Living Room Realty, March 30, 2022

One would think that you couldn’t spend an entire day in a neighborhood that is roughly 5 miles in radius, but you will be pleasantly surprised how fast the day will go with how many places there are to shop, eat, and gather. If you want to blend in like a true local, you’ll want to put on your most comfortable walking shoes as it will only take a few minutes to get from one place to another, however any native to St. Johns will tell you that it isn’t about the destination, but really embracing the journey. With me as your guide, I’m sure we will have a great day!

Cathedral Coffee | 7530 N Willamette Blvd.

Start your journey by fueling up at Cathedral Coffee. The homey atmosphere, homemade pastries, and delightful coffee concoctions are sure to start your morning off right. I personally love their Summer Fancy breakfast sandwich which features bacon, strawberry-basil jam, and goat cheese on a buttery biscuit. It pairs really well with a matcha latte or any of their seasonal beverages.

St. Johns Farmers Market | N Charleston & N Central

One of my favorite late spring through summer activities is stopping by the farmer’s market and seeing what local businesses and farmers have to offer. With its new location near the St. Johns Community Center, you can enjoy the sun at the community center’s park after stuffing yourself with even more tasty fresh foods before heading back towards the downtown area.

ROM Shoes | 8621 N Lombard

Remember those comfy walking shoes I mentioned earlier? It seems you may have forgotten how much walking we were doing, but no matter, because you can purchase your new favorite pair of shoes at ROM! Women-owned and operated, this small business caters to all feet. ROM prioritizes and prides itself on partnering with manufacturers that are well versed in good business practices, so you know that in addition to a good fitting stylish shoe, you’ll be getting a quality shoe and an exceptional shopping experience.

Banh Mi Up | 8037 N Lombard || Cathedral Park

Let’s grab lunch and head down to Cathedral Park for a picnic! I know just the place! Right here on the corner of Lombard and Jersey St is one of my favorite spots, Banh Mi Up! On rainy days I love to come here for some of their Chicken Pho, but with how beautiful it is today, I’m feeling like a Roasted Pork Belly Banh Mi. If you’re not feeling meat today though they do have the Vegan Roasted Pork Belly Banh Mi and the Tofu Banh Mi. Now that we have our sandos, let’s head down to Cathedral Park and bask in the sun, walk around, and hang out on the dock!

Urban German Wursthaus | 6635 N Baltimore Ave Unit 201 || Jamaica House | 8307 N Ivanhoe

Mikasa Sushi | 8777 N Lombard || Tienda Santa Cruz | 8630 N Lombard

I know we ate a few hours ago, but I was thinking about hitting up any of my other favorite food spots before we go to the movies. What are you feeling? We could hit up Urban German Wursthaus, Jamaica House, or if you’re feeling sushi we could stop by Mikasa Sushi. OH! There is also Tienda Santa Cruz if you’re looking for some superb Mexican! It’s your adventure, so it’s your choice!

St. Johns Cinema | 8704 N Lombard || McMenamins St. Johns | 8203 N Ivanhoe

Now that we are FULL and never want to look at food again, we can either go to St. Johns Twin Cinemas or we can head over to McMenamins. The plus side of either of these places is that they serve alcohol in the theater, and tasty snacks– on the off chance we get hungry again! Both theaters are really good about switching up titles too!

Thank you for spending the day with me! It was so much fun! Maybe next time you can show me around your neighborhood for the day?
