When people choose a home, they are choosing more than square footage. They are choosing a community.
For many households, schools shape daily life. For others, they are simply part of the civic ecosystem that keeps a state strong. Either way, most of us can agree that Oregon’s children deserve fair and equitable access to consistent learning time.
Today, Oregon students receive significantly fewer instructional days than peers nationwide. By graduation, the average Oregon student will have had roughly 195 fewer school days. Differences between districts can compound over time, creating wide disparities in instructional access. At the same time, nearly one in three Oregon students missed more than three weeks of school last year.
Time matters. Transparency matters. Strong systems matter.
House Bill 4154 is moving through the legislature to improve attendance reporting so schools receive actionable data throughout the year, not long after intervention is possible. If you believe in thoughtful accountability and supporting Oregon’s future, you can learn more and share your perspective through our nonprofit partner, Stand for Children Oregon:
