About five years ago, I was lucky enough to catch a show at Mississippi Studios to listen to some local tunes with a dear friend. Ryan Stively’s band Poison Arrows was the opener that evening. It was my first time hearing them play, but I became an instant fan of this Portland local band.
I remember telling my friend that this band’s music was the perfect soundtrack for a PNW Sunday afternoon with their laid back but upbeat vibe. The band’s folksy and warm sounds combined with Ryan’s smooth but slightly raspy vocals instantly hooked me. I remember going home that evening and immediately looking up Poison Arrows to see what other music they had out, and for any upcoming shows. I was pleased to find this video for their song “Golden October” which has become my PNW fall anthem. The song is an ode to Portland in fall, spending time on Sauvie’s island, berry picking, bonfires, and time spent frolicking with friends.
This last winter, I was surprised when the band’s lead singer reached out to see if I could help him and his wife sell their home which they’d outgrown, and help them find something that was a better fit for their family’s needs. He’d seen my social media posts and knew that I was a REALTOR® and a supporter of local music. I was thrilled, and of course happy to help these folks!
Fast forward to their open house I held on an early spring Sunday afternoon; there seemed no better or more fitting music to play than the laid back sounds of Poison Arrows. As I sat in that open house that day, I couldn’t help but to reflect on all the ways that my love and support of local music has brought me so much joy, and has manifested opportunities in my life to know and work with such kind and creative folks like Ryan and Meg.
We ultimately received multiple offers on my client’s home, went well above list price, and were pending within four days! I’m pretty sure the open house music was part of the magic!
Here’s to getting out and supporting local music and artists and to all the goodness it manifests in our lives in sometimes unexpected ways. Thank you Meg and Ryan for allowing me the opportunity to help with selling your current pad and finding a new place to call home!
