Meeting People in Their Need

By Living Room Realty, June 30, 2023

I could write a long list of the fun aspects of being a Realtor. Every day is a little bit different and therefore, always a new adventure around the corner.

Perhaps one of my absolute favorite things about my job is that we get to meet people where they’re at in their lives in the moment. Moving often precedes or follows some sort of major life change and this major life change usually equals emotional rollercoasters.

This year, we’ve had the immense pleasure of going the extra mile for a few people that needed it and our goal each time is to be their resource far beyond their transactional needs.

One client came to us this year who lived in Minnesota and had a sister in Gresham who was at a stage of life where she needed to move into an assisted living facility. We connected them with an amazing company called Lighthouse who helped them through the entire process of selecting a place, sorting and selling items she wasn’t going to take with her, and even helped clean up when they were done. (Huge shoutout to Lighthouse for being an amazing resource!)

We’ve helped another past client in a tight financial place after she lost her job by organizing a long list of vendors to pack, improve, and stage her place in just ONE week. That long list included movers to help pack and move things to a new place, painters to touch up the walls, cleaners to make it shine, junk haulers to take away everything she didn’t need, stagers to make it pop, photographers that made it stand out, landscapers that made it feel like home, and a handyman to make sure everything was tuned up and ready to go. She merely handed us the keys, we talked about a budget to maximize her return, and we did the rest. (She ended up netting around $60,000 more from doing these preparation jobs!)

Another client came to us this year having just lost her husband. She was moving to Tennessee to be closer to her son but had 20 years of things to sort through in the house before she could do so. Thankfully, she had an army of friends and family who helped her pack up and out and we took it from there. Again, we were tasked with helping the house shine. We organized painters, handymen, designers, stagers, landscapers, and our trusty photographer only to land them THIRTEEN offers.

The best part about these stories is not that we were able to get our clients the most money for their houses but that we connected with them on a much deeper level than just sticking a sign in the yard. I am constantly astounded by the honor it is that people trust us in this vulnerable time in their lives. The least we can do for people is to offer all of the knowledge and experiences we have. We stand here so excited for those who have moved on to new stages of life with real estate success in their pockets and ready for whomever else we can help as well.
