There is a general malaise among the Portland-raised Millennial generation when it comes to buying a home. For many it feels like an impossible feat, but don’t despair! My recent client and step-cousin, beat the odds and landed a great home in the up-and-coming neighborhood of Lents. And he’s only 27. BOOM.
Sam is one of the sweetest, most patient and understanding people I have ever known. I work with A LOT of first time home buyers, and he was just a champion through the whole thing. We had been searching for a while for the right fit and had lost out on one particularly cute place, but in the end we found an even better house for Sam to turn into a home.
It’s pretty much the perfect Portland farmhouse. It’s got a great yard for gardening and playing with his sweet golden retriever, Cooper, and a super cool room in the basement, perfect for Sam’s homebrewing setup. The house also has a really cool landing space which will be a future reading nook during the long winter months. It’s a home to build a life in, and Sam is just the Portlander to do it.
We went in with a strong offer of $40k over asking, but the real clincher was his earnest and open letter to the sellers. That, and a mysterious neighbor who may or may not have also written a letter to the sellers. We are little foggy on the details, but in the end it was enough to score Millennial Sam his very own piece of Portland.
