Modern Day Green Acres

By Living Room Realty, December 4, 2019

“Green Acres is the place to be,

Farm livin is the life for me!

Land spreadin’ out so far and wide,

Keep Manhattan just give me that countryside!”

The wish list was a long one for this San Francisco couple. Close to the city and Portland airport, but on a large and private piece of land, master on the main, guest quarters, seasoned land with lots of green growth, a barn/shed, room for foster dogs to run like the wind, enough bedrooms to have two home offices and space that could accommodate some goats and a donkey! With family living in nearby Portland, they were somewhat familiar with the lay of the land- though really wanted to focus on the Washington side. They would fly up and we would pack the weekend with house showings, exploring neighborhoods and learning which town they were most drawn to. I quickly learned that this couple would be right at home in the Pacific Northwest; their love of hiking and respect for the towering trees and flowing Washougal River was more than apparent. We pulled up to what we would soon refer to as “The Orchard House”, and knew we found something special. The home had a large red barn sitting sleepily on the back side of the 2.5 acre lot, the walkway wound us through the enchanted garden and past the 9 fruit trees stretched out basking in the sun. I watched the smiles grow as we imagined foster dogs frolicking, fruit harvesting parties and endless hiking paths just minutes from the front doorstep. Congratulations to such a wonderful couple, the kindness and respect you show to each other and to our environment is admirable; it was an absolute honor working with the two of you and I can’t wait to come pick some fruit from your wonderful orchard!
