New Multnomah Village Businesses with Balls and Staying Power

By Living Room Realty, September 17, 2020

With so much going on in our little corner of the world, I’m going to give you something to look forward to! It is with so much hope that the smoky chapter of the 2020 saga ends soon, and when it does there are two new AMAZING spots in Multnomah Village you should check out in addition to the already fantastic options. I am constantly impressed with so many of our local busines owner’s ability to rise above this challenge, and am in awe of the grit it must take to open up shop during a global pandemic. Two new spots I feel the need to shout from the rooftops about are Mad Sass Soap and Yalla.

I am stoked to welcome Yalla, a fantastic Eastern Mediterranean hotspot into the district, and boy does it deliver! Having tried nearly everything on the menu (yeah, I may be hooked), must try dishes include the hummus with burnt beef ends, fried corn “ribs”, potato dumplings, house smoked pastrami, beef and lamb kebobs, and don’t forget the pita bread as it is to die for. If you’re in the mood for a cocktail, I really like the “If You Can’t Beet ‘Em” and the “Fashioned Right”. HERE is a link to their full menu. They have got the Covid protocol down to a science from day one, with ample outdoor seating either street side or on the back porch, and each table has it’s own sanitized cart for plate delivery via a healthy distance. The inside of the space takes shape in the former O’Connors space with the old bar preserved and simple interiors. They are not currently seating the dining room due to Covid, however they did just introduce takeout and delivery. Seating does fill up fast, but they text you when your table’s ready allowing you to take in some of the other greatness the village offers.

Speaking of greatness, let me introduce you to Mad Sass Soap! Upon walking into the shop for the first time, my simple brain who has been using the same rotation of products for years just about exploded from the mass transformation it was about to experience. Seriously, the space they have created tickles all of the senses and the loveliness that adorns the shelves is made in house from all natural ingredients. Marc was working at the counter while his wife Naomi was in the basement with their twins while creating the amazing artisanal products that make their way to the fresh and vibrant storefront. I have a friend who has gorgeous hair and she swears by shampoo bars versus bottles, so I thought I would give it a try. They directed me to a selection that would work for my hair type, and smelled so good you almost want to take a bite. Don’t worry, I resisted eating the soap, but did manage to leave with a the Beachwood Vetiver and the Lemongrass Mint versions of the shampoo and conditioner bars. Needless to say, I’m never going back to the plastic bottle and I am now officially super hot – kidding :). I was sold though, and on my next visit indulged in luxurious lotions and rose facial cream, which I’m not kidding makes my face feel like a baby’s butt. I also got the tea tree and cucumber for around the eyes, which has helped my eyes appear more “awake”. I am looking forward to going back to see what type of useful treasures I can bring into my regimen. If you’re not able to visit in person, they have an excellent online ordering system as well which along with their products can be found HERE.

If you’re like me and yearning for something to look forward to, you won’t be sorry to add a simple adventure to Multnomah Village to your agenda.

Be well, be safe, stay sane friends!

I would love to be part of your next move…
