Radon is a naturally-occurring, radioactive gas that you cannot see, smell, or taste. Radon in soil can enter your home through foundation cracks, construction joints, floor gaps, and pipes, pumps, & drains.
Although radon is in the air outside, it can become dangerous when it concentrates inside of your home. The EPA has found radon to be the leading cause of lung cancer among non-smokers.
It is easy to test your home for radon. The EPA advises mitigation if radon levels test above 4.0 pCi/L but also recommends considering mitigation for levels between 2.0 pCi/L and 4.0 pCi/L.
The EPA, the CDC, and the State of Oregon, Oregon Health Authority have excellent resources to learn more about radon and how you can take action!
