Willamette Falls is tricky to see driving by, nestled between Oregon City and West Linn – but you are missing out if you haven’t tried for an up-close view!
It is the largest waterfall in the Pacific Northwest by volume, second in North America only to Niagara Falls – and the seventeenth widest in the world, did you know all that ??
A great way to see these falls and the river leading up to them that I’ve been recommending the past several years is via ‘duck boat’, a tourist flavored trip that starts on the east side of the river just outside and below OMSI.
But there’s an exciting project taking shape to redevelop the Oregon City side into a visitor center and River Walk . The canal and locks have been closed since 2011, as the surrounding area grows it’s time to make this beauty more accessible. However, like many great things it’ll take time to come to fruition but it should prove to be a fascinating and amazing asset to this stretch of Oregon.
