My buyers are purchasing a home sight unseen. Well, unseen in person. Actually, unseen in person recently. Let me explain.
My buyers currently live in San Francisco and like the rest of us, are on lockdown during these uncertain times. One of the buyers is a longtime client and friend. They had lived in Portland for 10+ years, until in 2016 they relocated for work. Since moving to SFO, they married. The happy couple decided that moving back to Portland was a dream worth pursuing.
For over a year we have been looking at houses when they have visited on weekends and actively, yet casually, scouring the market. Willing to put in the time, the right home had to be in the neighborhood they loved, not a fixer and have the hip aesthetic they desired. Eventually, the perfect property did come on the market – during the middle of the Pandemic. Serendipitously, it is a condo in a complex that they admired. They had visited a friend’s’ condo in the building many many years ago. My clients remembered and knew the unit’s layout, the complexes’ feel and the location. The current owners had done an impeccable interior remodel. All the boxes ticked! With travel restrictions and following guidelines to stay home and stay safe, my clients did not to come to Portland for a showing. This condo was “the one”, so we put in an offer and it was quickly accepted.
Navigating the inspections were interesting. Through a series of virtual tours, Zoom and FaceTime calls, I was impressed at everyone’s ability to adapt and go through the purchase to closing – sight unseen. The clients could not be more delighted. Now, we wait until they can visit and see their new home in person.
