Dewayne is such a sweet fellow. Mild mannered and patient, a true delight to be around. We had the pleasure of meeting last summer when past client and new friend, Leah, sent him my direction for the purpose of a home purchase. Dewayne and I partnered up shortly thereafter to begin the search but with no luck after looking high and low through early winter he had to ship out for a month of out of state training and the touring ceased. He had been close to buying a tiny well decorated single bedroom home but at the last minute thought better of buying something that would only comfortably accommodate one person. When we last parted his enthusiasm had waned and it seemed the prospect of buying in the competitive Portland marketplace might not be for him.
Fast forward to his return in February. I was surprised to look down and see Dewayne’s name on an incoming call. Sure enough he was not only interested in buying a place but he was ready to commit. It was the real deal. Dewayne was enthusiastically prepared to stake his claim on his own piece of Portland real estate. Within weeks we found this little gem on NE Simpson. The spaces were small but they lived large. The kitchen was perfectly designed for him and between the bathroom’s updates and the cozy fireplace in the living room Dewayne was tuned in. It was fun to see him light up when he walked into each space.
He wrote strong with a VA loan and in a few short weeks it was all wrapped up and topped with a bow. As I was leaving post key delivery I asked if he was as excited as he was when the sale began (he’d hit patches of nervousness during the process). Being the mild mannered guy that he is I always had to ask and receive a verbal response to know what was going on in that head of his. Not only did he say he was stoked but much to my surprise he told me that he was going to scream his head off his head off as soon as I left. In retrospect my only regret about working with Dewayne is that I didn’t stick around and watch him do history victory scream through the window.
