The best/worst re: times

By Living Room Realty, August 22, 2020

We planted our summer garden in March.

I’ve been cutting my own hair, such as it is, for about 20 years. So, you know. No biggie.

I don’t mind doing dishes and sweeping the floor. So much cleaning.

I refuse to fold laundry, but my partner likes to. So much laundry.

We’ve been together for 13 years but we’re getting to know each other “extra well” these days, which makes for some pretty hilarious observations.

“You’ve been making that sound a lot lately. I don’t think you realize you’re doing it.”

“Wow. You really like that song, don’t you?”

“Have you always brushed your teeth so fiercely?”

The kids makeRube Goldberg machines in the back yard that don’t really work, but take up half an afternoon, so it’s a win.

Watching them do something especially egregious, we say simultaneously: “They get that from your side of the family.”

I put the kids to bed as she goes off to join the Wall of Moms, wearing our son’s swimming goggles.

All the trampolines are sold out. But then again, who wants to visit the emergency room right now?

I’m making flutes out of our neighbor’s bamboo. A cool idea until you hear me play one.

“Keys, phone, wallet, mask” is starting to feel somewhat normal.

My current listing has a pool, and my clients have moved away, so I’ve been learning the fine art of Portland pool maintenance this summer. Pumps, filters, nets and chlorine. There’s even an underwater robot vacuum I get to set loose once in a while.

Nothing is perfect, but life is still happening and here we are.

And here we will be.
