The day I met Naomi, I knew I was in for a ride. Strong, intelligent, independent and outspoken- a true New Yorker. Moving to Portland was provoked by the want to be closer to family and to watch her brother’s children grow. Soon after, she nested into a beautiful home of her own in Woodstock. Perfectly decorated, spotless at all times, the home was pristine. I got to know her over the years, sharing bottomless glasses of wine and late night stories.. she won my heart. She shared her want for a child, and after a few years took the dive to have the most darling son I’ve ever seen. Images of crumbs on the floor, fingerprints on her sparkling glass and endless baby proofing, this woman’s life was about to be sticky yet full of laughter and kisses. Now it was time to consider a whole new set of priorities- safety, schools, neighbors with children for him to grow with, so she made the choice to move to Happy Valley. I could see how torn she was to move to the truuuuue suburbs. From New York to Happy Valley, she vacillated over so many things… Was she losing her identity? Was she making a bad decision? Could she even DO it? Her love and commitment to her child, she sweetly calls her little “chicken”, was worth any and all of it. She waited patiently while her gorgeous new home was being built, and today she settles in for the next chapter with her sweet son. I simply can’t wait to see what this little man grows into, surely he will always feel the true love and commitment he receives from his mama. Congratulations, my dear friend! Thank you for letting me part of your journey.
