This Must Be The Place

By Living Room Realty, June 12, 2019

When I met Whitney & Alicia they were on a mission not only to buy a house, but to buy THIS house. With their home-buying priority set on location, we were able to orchestrate a unicorn sale landing them in their dream location right down the street from friends. For Whitney & Alicia, community is key.

In the home buying process there’s always a compromise. Frequently an inverse correlation exists between location and…everything else. For example, you want prime location and want it to be move in ready? You’re going to pay a premium price to have it all. You want the perfect location and are willing to put some work into the home? You may have a multi-year project on your hands but in the meantime you’re living right where you want to be, sticking to your price point and gaining major sweat-equity. That is the route Whitney and Alicia decided on. We talked about this essential truth: what you’re really purchasing in real estate, the unchangeable piece, is the location. Everything else can be changed.

A friend of theirs had heard though the grapevine that a neighbor might be selling his house. The home had been a rental, and since it needed some work it was a real opportunity. I contacted the owner who had been thinking of listing but hadn’t yet, and we were able to put together a magical sale in this fabulous location. It seemed to be a pretty easy decision for Whitney & Alicia, ready to put in the work and live near their people. Now they’ve got a great house (which they’ll make even greater), friends down the street, and one of our go-to home inspectors living just across the street! Now if they ever have an issue, they know where to find him. ?

It was really awesome working with this family to help them land in their dream location when at their price point they didn’t think it possible. And it’s been extra fun seeing Whitney and their son Asa every Saturday at the music class I take my son Max to. Wishing them all the best for this next chapter!
